GERMAN CITIES WORD SEARCHES

(1)
GERMAN CITIES WORD SEARCHES - FIVE DIFFERENTIATED GERMAN CITIES WORD SEARCHES WITH ANSWER KEYS AND GRID TEMPLATE - PERFECT FOR DEVELOPING GERMAN LANGUAGE SKILLS AND DISCOVERING MAJOR CITIES IN GERMANY Word searches are great for encouraging students to engage with the written word in German - they refresh and reinforce language as they complete each grid. Students get a really good introduction to, and overview of, the geography of Germany and a range of major German cities in a slightly different way. We talk about other cities and towns students may know or discover too. With this set, each grid increases in challenge, and students can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key. I always give my students answer keys for these types of activity - it’s an additional opportunity to engage with language, it helps them develop more independence in their learning, and they genuinely enjoy ‘correcting’ their own and especially each others’ work. The templates help students apply their knowledge of language more creatively and practically - and they can include cities they discover too. The reference sheet works well as a long-term reference resource, not just for these particular word searches. I use word searches in a range of contexts, not only when we’re looking specifically at the focus language - they’re great for starters, for free-choice activities, for sub lessons and so on. NEWLY-REVISED AND UPDATED RESOURCE COMING SOON! PERFECT FOR DEVELOPING FRENCH LANGUAGE SKILLS AND PRACTISING VOCABULARY IN FRENCH - 40 ESSENTIAL WORDS AND PHRASES! PRIMARY FRENCH QUICK VOCABULARY QUIZZES really do help to create a lively language learning environment, and offer a popular alternative to more traditional vocabulary ‘drilling’ activities. Children can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their FRENCH vocabulary in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, in part independently of the teacher. The quizzes have a bonus multi-focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing and spelling. It doesn’t matter if the featured vocabulary doesn’t correspond exactly to the language in your past, current, short or even longer-term learning plans - the quizzes are a great way of encouraging children to engage with both familiar and new language. Use during lessons which focus specifically on these vocabulary groups, as well as as starters, plenaries or ’pick-me-ups’ at any time during the school year for maximum benefit! This set features words and phrases in the following vocabulary groups: - Colours - My family - Parts of the body - Conversation There are 40 words & phrases and four quizzes, each with a different challenge and skill focus: QUIZ 1: children write the ENGLISH word from a FRENCH prompt QUIZ 2: children write the FRENCH word from an ENGLISH prompt QUIZ 3: children can play in teams or individually, responding orally with the correct ENGLISH word from a written FRENCH prompt QUIZ 4: children can play in teams or individually, responding orally with the correct FRENCH word from a written ENGLISH prompt QUIZZES 3 and 4 are really useful for reading out loud and pronunciation practice too, and are also provided in pdf format so that children can use independently on tablets or similar devices - this is great if you’re homeschooling too. The written quizzes are provided in 3 different formats to suit your particular preference: 4 FRENCH-ENGLISH quiz sheets; 4 ENGLISH-FRENCH quiz sheets; all 8 quiz sheets, alternately FRENCH and ENGLISH, which work really well if you can print and photocopy double-sided and prepare in a workbook format - children love to turn the page over and see how well they do ’the other way round’! FRENCH CITIES WORD SEARCHES

FRENCH CITIES 5 DIFFERENTIATED WORD SEARCHES WITH ANSWER KEY AND GRID TEMPLATES I use these word searches as a way of introducing the geography and cities of France to my students, as well as to give them opportunity to practice their beginning French skills - they’re differentiated, and multi-skill. The grid template allows them to apply their French very practically, as they create grids for each other - I always encourage my students to explore France a little more, and find other cities and towns too. When I create word searches, I always create corresponding answer keys - for me, they’re an integral part of the learning activity, helping students develop independence in their learning, and offering further opportunity to engage with language. There’s a reference sheet of all cities included in the searches, which you can share between small groups of students, or give one to each student to stick into their learning workbooks as an all-year-round reference. Use as starters, refreshers, plenaries, sub/cover lessons, pick-me-ups or fun-time fillers at any time during the school year, as well as when you’re discussing the geography of France. The resource consists of 3 non-editable files. Please read the TERMS OF USE carefully - the resource is copyright, all rights reserved. PRIMARY FRENCH DISPLAY WORD WALL DAYS MONTHS SEASONS This Primary French word wall display creates an instant introduction to the days of the week and the months and seasons of the year in French, and really brightens up the learning environment too. I like to share essential vocab that we can use in everyday language with my young learners from the beginning of their learning. We use them not only when we’re introducing and practising days, months and seasons, but also for developing French language skills and awareness in general. We talk a lot about the similarities and differences in the different languages, such as the use of capital letters, and we look very closely for cognates too. There are two cards per 8.5 x 11 (A4) page in landscape format - the words are definitely big enough for children to be able to read - we do lots of guessing, spelling and vocab games for example. There are two backgrounds to choose from - French flag or black wave. I definitely recommend that you print on card stock and/or laminate for longevity - you’ll be able to enjoy your PRIMARY FRENCH DAYS MONTHS AND SEASONS WORD WALL for years to come! Try this French Numbers 0-21 word wall to see if the design suits your classroom - it’s the same design https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/primary-french-numbers-0-21-word-wall-12098682 There are two non-editable files in a zipped format - they’re copyright, all rights reserved - they can’t be shared, copied or rewritten - I’ve explained everything in my Terms of Use. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. These French numbers display posters / flashcards create an instant introduction to Numbers 0-31 in French, also giving the learning environment fabulous French look and feel. I’ve found that having new and high-frequency language displays also helps promote French as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of French learners. The posters help students familiarize themselves with how French words ‘look’, and how sounds are represented in the written form. The font is big enough for students to read in various locations in the classroom - I find this really important so that we can get the most out of any particular display - for example we use them for spelling and mental calculation games at certain points in the lesson. It doesn’t matter if you’re not focusing on numbers at any particular time - classroom display provides learners with daily opportunities to engage with the written word in French, to develop their recognition and recall of individual words, to identify cognates and near-cognates, and to begin to link spelling with sound in French. Use them as flashcards to introduce and practise language too - it’s a traditional and successful low-tech teaching method, which gives students a welcome break from the whiteboard - varying teaching methodologies in the language learning classroom is always a good idea, and I also encourage my students to take the role of the teacher too, which they find really motivating. There are two backgrounds to choose from - French flag or black wave, so 64 posters in all. Laminate or print on card stock - I always do this with my flashcards and displays - they hang a lot better, and I recycle them for many years. Have a browse in my store for more French flashcards / posters, and a wide range of other French teaching and learning materials, with French resource boxes, special offer bundles, and lots of freebies. GCSE GERMAN KS4 GERMAN KS5 GERMAN VERBS 500 high-frequency German verbs, listed alphabetically German-English - a great learning support resource for KS4 German moving into advanced German A Level learners, and can also be given to KS3 German students, providing verb audit tool, and a language road map with learning goals, outlining the verbs they should ideally know by a specific stage in their learning. I create a lot of language learning reference books for my languages students, they’re really popular with my students, who like to have a bank of reference resources for both initial learning and longer-term revision. There are 22 pages in the book, and all 500 verbs are listed alphabetically German-English. Each German verb is indicated by irr; sein; sep for example, to denote irregular, conjugated with sein, separable. I use the reference book for quick vocabulary quizzes too - either I or a nominated student shouts out a German or English verb, with teams giving the corresponding German or English verb - I’ve found this is a really successful way of avoiding more formal vocabulary tests, while still providing students with frequent opportunity to refresh and embed essential German vocabulary. For UK teachers, these are roughly GCSE / Standard / age 16 examinations moving into advanced level, all examination boards (AQA, Edexcel, Eduqas, SQA). We use the Notes and Next Steps template to think about progress and vocabulary knowledge. Students find this really useful, and do like to map and track their own progress. My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom. The focus is on common separable prefixes such as ab, an, aus, ein, um and zu. Prefixes such as entlang and entgegen are not included in this particular collection of verbs… The resource has the following structure: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: German-English and English-German. Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in German across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in German, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in German. I use these kinds of workbooks in lots of different ways: for practice during the introduction phase, for independent choice in class time, for home learning, for practice and revision during vacation and at return to class, and for cover lessons - they're really versatile, and ideal for KS3 French students who are getting to grips with conjugation in French, and beginning to work with compound sentences and texts. The workbooks focus on the mechanics of conjugation, rather than usage, and I've found that when my students are able to provide the correct conjugation very quickly, and out of a specific context, they feel really confident that their conjugation skills are developing well. I've included a couple of -GER and -CER verbs to ensure students are able to practice the addition of an E and Ç in the present tense nous form - I've found that students do need a little extra help with those. The resource is structured as follows: * Two alphabetical verb reference lists: French-English and English-French. * Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: = Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in French across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. = Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in French, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in French. = Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding French verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an English prompt. = Notes and Next Steps template encourages students to reflect on learning and progress = answer key Have a browse in my store for more French resources, including special offer bundles, resource boxes, and freebies. I find it useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb conjugation. For example with the perfect tense, students need to have a good grasp of the relevant auxiliary in the present tense - there are verbs that require either haben or sein, so the focus on the auxiliary sein with this workbook helps to embed this concept, and to get used to ensuring that the past participle is situated at the end of the clause or sentence. Forming the past participle of a whole range of verb groups follows a certain pattern, which students are able to identify and predict the more they work with conjugation, and these quick conjugations will certainly help to embed that successfully. The format is as follows: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: German-English and English-German. Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: = Quick Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in German across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. = Quick Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in German, specifying the target pronoun.
